See what you're doing in the dark with an LED Night Cap. Useful anywhere light is required at night: when setting up your telescope, trampling through the woods, or reading maps. Popular with pilots.
Features two red LEDs to preserve night vision. The brightness can be reduced by replacing one battery with a couple of coins or metal slugs.
Why red? The human eye uses a chemical pigment called rhodopsin to increase sensitivity to light. Rhodopsin is insensitive to longer wavelengths (red light). White light will bleach the pigment out, thus ruining your night vision. It can take 20-30 minutes for this chemical to fully regenerate.
The two white LEDs are for those times when additional white illumination is required. As a safety measure against accidental turn-on, the switch for the white LEDs has to be pressed three times (3x). The two switches are built right in the visor.
