Nikon Action 7x50 Binoculars
[7217]
$119.99

I purchased these binoculars for my 12 year old niece as a Christmas gift, along with the book Nightwatch by Terence Dickinson. As it was a fairly clear night on Christmas Eve, she was allowed to open them up. Minutes later we were enjoying views of Jupiter and M42, as well as many other objects. Later in the evening the moon rose, and even with the quite bright glow, we were able to continue our observations.

There are better binoculars available at FSc but these offer the most bang for the buck, especially for a 12 year old kid.

Please note that they are not as light weight as would normally be desired for a child, but there are many ways to stabilize the view, I had suggested she hold them over one wrist. This worked quite well. We will whip up a broomstick mount at some point in the future.

For adults (35+ or so), I'd recommend the 10x50 version of these, due to the smaller pupil diameter.

Another plus was the no nonsense purchasing experience in the store. I walked in, and within minutes got exactly what I wanted with no "sales spiel". As it was a new shipment of binocs, they were tested right there and judged to be without obvious fault. I have no doubt that if any issue crops up with them I could just walk in and have it fixed up right there.

All in all, a perfect experience. I will be making additional purchases...once I figure out what I want to get myself. ;)
