Let me start by saying that the service at Focus Scientific is outstanding. The staff is very knowledgeable, patient, and they certainly know what a customer experience is supposed to be. Even at times when there are more customers than staff, they masterfully balance their time to ensure that each customer gets the attention they need to make informed decisions about their purchase. I commend the staff, and particularly Tristan, for the customer-focused approach taken at Focus Scientific. The shop really does seem to care that you get the right optics for you, and they will go to great lengths to make sure that you are satisfied with your purchase.
Regarding the Vortex Viper HD binocular, I settled on them after spending more than a little time in the store going through Nikon, Minox and other brands. To my eye, the Viper HD hits a bull's-eye at the nexus between price and performance. It is a high quality binocular that is noticeably brighter than its competitors with an amazingly sharp image. In one's hands, the binocular feels like a high quality product and its real world performance matches that feeling in practice. The Vortex warranty is also as good as a warranty could possibly be so this adds significant value to an already fantastic binocular.
I'm not an expert in optics so despite my praise for the Viper HD, I recommend that those shopping for a new binocular go to the store and spend some time figuring out what is best for them. Personally, I am confident that many people will end up with the Viper HD, even if their budget allows for something much more expensive. The good news here is that the staff at Focus Scientific will make your search for a new binocular a pleasant one and you will absolutely end up with something you are happy with.
