The SBIG ST-i monochrome has been designed from the ground up for planetary imaging and guiding. Featuring a small compact body with minimal weight, this camera is capable of performing its job without impeding sensitive astrophotography setups.
Featuring a quality CCD sensor, the SBIG ST-i offers higher sensitivity and lower noise than the inexpensive CMOS sensors typically used in similarly purposed cameras. A 16-bit A/D converter ensures data isn't lost.
The monochrome version of this camera is ideal for guiding because the full visible spectrum of light is being used by each pixel, maximizing sensitivity and resolution. This also allows for the most detailed planetary images when separate (L)RGB filters are used. A one-shot-colour version is available.
This camera is also designed for high quality planetary imaging. CCDOPS, written by SBIG and included with the camera, takes much of the guesswork out of planetary imaging by providing the user with feedback on the quality of the acquired frames. Coupled with the high quality of the SBIG ST-i, this system is fully capable of producing very high quality images.
The SBIG ST-i features a mechanical shutter. While the electronic shutter can be used on its own for guiding and imaging, the mechanical shutter makes taking darks simple, vital for remote observatories.
The SBIG ST-i minimizes cable clutter, being powered and interfaced via a single USB2.0 cable. A standard auto-guiding port is also included.
The camera body accepts 1.25" filters natively and has a standard C-mount lens adapter.
