Introducing our latest technology in the form of a new CMOS camera, the MALLINCAM HD-10. Its built-in computer makes for sheer simplicity, making it ideal for public outreach programs for Astronomy Clubs, Schools, Universities, Planetariums, Professional Observatories and educational institutes. Beginning and experienced astro-imagers alike will appreciate its features and capabilities as an electronically assisted observational instrument.
As a true HD High Definition live video camera, the MALLINCAM HD-10s output is HDMI. It has a computer, memory and video processor built in, rendering it a fully stand-alone unit without requiring any external computer assistance. If the user does choose to use a computer, communication via USB2 permits full external camera control.
The USB2 connectivity is a two-way street. A mouse can be plugged in to access and control the fully built-in, stand-alone camera software without a computer. Or a user may choose to connect the HD-10 to a PC for full external control and image acquisition.
The heart of this newest MallinCam Video Observational System is a 2.1 megapixel High Performance, Back Illuminated, High Definition Sony CMOS sensor providing exposure times from 1 milli-second second to 10 seconds. This facilitates the observation of the Sun (with proper solar filter), Moon and planets, as well as at least the brighter deep-sky objects. When connected to a (user supplied) HDMI monitor, the true 1080P imagery will impress your audience.
For the first time, an HDMI camera is equipped with complete control over exposure and gain settings. As mentioned above, you have access to exposure settings from 1ms up to 10 seconds. And you need not settle for just the sensor's inherent sensitivity. Sixty-three levels of gain adjustment applies up to a 300-fold increase in sensor sensitivity. This brings fainter objects into view.
By plugging in an SD card (one is supplied), 1080P video and still images can be directly captured and saved for later review.
Just click on the button to start recording 1080P videos at 30fps. You can play back videos through the camera interface.
The Built-in mouse control is a significant innovation of the MallinCam HD-10 via the embedded application software inside the camera. The user can control the camera with just a mouse; there is no requirement for a PC.
The MallinCam HD-10 adopts an innovative FPGA dual-core processor; FPGA1 high-definition image quality processor and FPGA2 image output controller, to ensure high speed, high quality images, live.
3D Noise Reduction with up to seven times sampling (averaged stacking) is included. Increasing the exposure time increases the image noise, as is normal. But the integrated fully adjustable 3D noise reduction function keeps the MallinCam HD-10 image always clean and sharp.
The Image Comparison Function is available in the setting menu. An image can be chosen with which to compare against the live image. This image can be moved on screen, or have a Region of Interest (ROI) selected.
Maximize detail, especially for group viewing, with ROI Magnification Function. A series of image operation buttons on the right side of the screen allows the image to be flipped, rotated or a Region of Interest (ROI) to be selected. The ROI function can help to see more image detail via a form of digital zoom.
The MallinCam HD-10's embedded software is designed for ease of use. There are only two icons on the software starting screen, one for image capture and the other for the settings menu. It’s as intuitive as a smartphone.
